Four Justices, out of a seven-member panel, resolved on technicality that the petition filed against Akeredolu’s victory was incompetent, because the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State was not joined as a party. The Supreme Court has upheld the 10-year imprisonment of former Plateau Governor Joshua Dariye upon his conviction for criminal breach of trust. A five-man panel of the court, led by Justice Mary Odili, in a unanimous judgment on Friday, upheld Dariye’s appeal in part, by quashing the one-year sentence imposed on him by the Court of Appeal in relation to the offence of criminal misappropriation. Justice Ejembi Eko prepared the lead judgment which was read on Friday by Justice Helen Ogunwumiju. Subsequently, after the Federal Government, through the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 made public the COVID – Regulations 2020, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Muhammad took the initiative, in his capacity as the head of the judicial arm of government, to direct courts’ heads to scale down court activities as a measure to curb the spread of the virus. In a circular, marked: NJC/CIR/HOC/11/631 issued on March 23, 2020, the CJN advised courts’ heads to still continue to hear certain cases while keeping social distancing and wearing face masks among other anti-COVID-19 measures. ....
