Chattanooga State Employee Excellence Awards Announced Monday, April 5, 2021 - by Betty Proctor, Chattanooga State Chattanooga State Community College announced the winners of 2020-2021 Employee Excellence Awards. Excellence Award winners all embrace the characteristics of teamwork, integrity, productivity, and professionalism to ensure student success. This year’s winners include Rebecca Aslinger, Jeffery Long, Tabitha Banks, Doug Morris, and Susan Jennings.  Rebecca Aslinger, Community College Teaching Excellence Award. With extensive teaching experience, Ms. Aslinger, an assistant professor of Early Childhood Education, possesses a deep knowledge base and brings unparalleled energy to the classroom on a daily basis. Her focus on student success compels her to absorb additional knowledge through learning opportunities such as high impact practices that in turn benefit her students, while her flexibility to meet the needs of her students, such as moving a class to Satu

Von Schaaf, Vicki Lynn Saturday, February 13, 2021 Vicki Lynn Von Schaaf Vicki Lynn Von Schaaf, 75, of Harrison, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 8, 2021. Vicki was born on October 7, 1945 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA to the late John Graham and Tommie Conley Waitt. Vicki was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Vicki had a Master’s Degree in Nursing and taught Nursing at Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing until its closing. In 1982 she and her best friend, Susan Byrne RN, moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL, and she worked in labor and delivery at Plantation Hospital. They moved back to Chattanooga in 1989 where Vicki taught LPN at Chattanooga State until her retirement in 2017. Vicki loved teaching and if you were to ask her students, they would tell you how wonderful and caring she was to her students and patients. She was a Tennessee Vol fan especially girls basketball and she and Susan loved fishing.

Current Chairman and CEO Larry Parks and Senior Project Manager Robert Parks remember the words from company founder and grandfather, T.U. Parks, who said, “never stop learning.” The company has established a $50,000 T.U. Parks Construction Company Endowed Scholarship through the Chattanooga State Foundation.

Chattanooga State’s Virtual Dinner Of Firsts Remix Raises More Than $50,0000 Sunday, January 17, 2021 Dinner of Firsts, the signature fundraising event presented by the Chattanooga State Foundation for Chattanooga State Community College, celebrated a successful ninth year on Nov. 12, 2020.  Each year a community leader who is the first in their family to attend college is honored with a Toast and Roast. Proceeds of the event fund scholarships for first-generation college students. Statistics show that one in three entering freshmen at Chattanooga State are the first in their families to attend college. Earnings from the first nine years have provided more than $532,000 in scholarship support for First in the Family scholars.
