Passaic NJ joins communities' push for a national COVID Memorial Day


PASSAIC City firefighters, EMTs and workers at St. Mary s Hospital took part Monday in what some are calling a national COVID Memorial Day. 
Not yet official, the first Monday in March would become  COVID-19 Victims and Survivors Memorial Day under a bill introduced by Rep. Greg Stanton, an Arizona Democrat. 
This week, Americans mourned half a million lives lost to the coronavirus half a million family members, friends, neighbors and coworkers,” Stanton said in a news release about his bill. “Long after our nation moves beyond this most grim episode, we will need to collectively recognize all those we lost and the aftershocks of what we experienced.”  ....

NJ schools should be 'back in business' by fall, Murphy predicts


New Jersey educators welcomed the news on Monday that they will finally be eligible for COVID-19 vaccines starting March 15, a move that Gov. Phil Murphy said should put all schools on track for reopening by the fall. 
Educators and unions have clamored for the vaccines, with some saying they were reluctant to return to classrooms until they get them. Currently, about one-third of public school students are in all-remote districts, Murphy said Monday.
As we continue to work toward seeing all of our students back in their schools, ensuring full access to vaccines for their educators is a big step to take, the Democrat said. It’s not a magic wand, it’s not the only step, but it is a big one. ....
