PATNA: Chief minister (CM) Nitish Kumar on Tuesday asked the district magistrates (DMs) of West Champaran, East Champaran and Gopalganj districts to remain on high alert and keep a special vigil in the wake of heavy downpour in the catchment areas of Gandak river in Nepal in the last 24 hours. The officials of the water resources department (WRD) and the disaster management department (DMD) have also been put on the alert. Chairing a review meeting meeting through videoconferencing, Nitish also asked the DMs to inform the families living in the low-lying areas beside the Gandak river about the floodwaters through intensive propaganda by loudspeakers, so that the action of evacuation, if situation demands, could be executed speedily. ....
PATNA: The National Hydel Power Corporation (NHPC) will establish the Dagmara multipurpose hydel power plant across river Kosi in Supaul district with an investment of Rs2,500 crore. The plant will have the power generation capacity of 130.1 MW. The MoU in this regard was signed between NHPC and Bihar State Hydel Power Corporation (BSHPC) on Monday through videoconferencing in the presence of Union minister of state for power R K Singh and state energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, besides senior central and state government officials. The Dagmara plant will be the state’s biggest hydel power plant to be located 31km along the downstream of the river. While it will have two power generation houses, the barrage length of the plant will be 753 metres and will have 36 gates. Besides generating green power, the barrage of the plant will also provide alternative route to cross the river. ....
