Dave Frederick Iseabal Cryne Izzy, now a senior, has been the starting lacrosse goalie since she arrived on the Macon, Ga. campus of Mercer University. Her short story is “Milton to Macon” protecting the house! Izzy was named to the All-Southern Conference Preseason Team for 2020 before the season was canceled after six games. She is a member of the 2019 all-tournament team and 2018 academic honor roll. The 2021 Bears are currently 4-4 on the season with wins over Winthrop (17-14), Woffard (20-5), Delaware State (21-3) and Kennesaw State (20-19). Izzy has started all eight games. She is now four wins away from becoming Mercer’s all-time winningest goalie. Mercer has four regular-season games remaining and then the conference tournament. Izzy was part of four state championship teams while at Cape and was also a star goalie when playing for Atlantic Lacrosse. ....
47abc April 6, 2021 FELTON, Del.- Behind 16 strikeouts from freshman ace Madge Layfield, the Sussex Central Golden Knights shut out Lake forest for the 4-0 win to move to 5-1 on the year. The loss drops Lake to 2-0. After a scoreless first inning, the Golden Knights got the bats going in the second. Two doubles from Aryanna Briddell and Kaylee Verosko brought home two runs to give Central the 2-0 lead to end the second. Same score headed to the fourth until Briddell send her second hit over the fence for a homer, she had a game high three hits on the day. In the fifth, Katelyn Evick joined the club sending a homer over the left field fence to make it a 4-0 game headed into the sixth inning. ....
47abc March 2, 2021 GEORGETOWN, Del.- Behind 11 points from Chase Hesson (go ahead shot for win) and Jayson Handy, the number 37 seed Delmarva Christian Royals defeated the number 28 Sussex Central Golden Knights in the final seconds 39-38. The Golden Knights finished their season with a 7-7 record. For the first time since 2013, the Sussex Central Golden Knights were making an appearance in the DIAA boys basketball tournament. That season, the Knights finished 12-8 with a 9 point loss to Newark. Central (7-7) came into tonights game on a rough three game losing streak with the Royals (2-9) not any hotter, 7 losses in a row. But, you can throw the records out the window when it comes to the DIAA tournament, anything can happen! ....

Collins is 6-foot-3, 275 pounds. The only two words the Seagulls coaches have said to him are “weight room.” Caden was the starting 285-pounder on the wrestling team until he broke his thumb two weeks ago while warming up before the match with Sussex Tech. Collins won two state football championships with coach John Wells. ....
47abc Chase Boyle s TD catch with :05 seconds left sends Central to title game December 12, 2020 SMYRNA, De- The Sussex Central Golden Knights are heading to their second Division I championship game in the last three years, knocking off top-seed Smyrna 38-34 in the state semifinal on Friday night. The game was an instant classic–with both teams trading punches throughout the entire night. Central took 14-0 lead after the first quarter off two Dion Stephens rushing scores. Smyrna would answer back when Aidan Sanchez hit Jermaine Earl for the Eagles first touchdown. The teams would trade scores three more times before the end of the half, with Central QB Zimir Gardner throwing two touchdown passes in late in the second quarter to give the Knights a 26-14 lead at the half. ....
