Travel agents have been warned not to expect much from this year’s Federal Budget, but that hasn’t stopped the sector’s peak body from continuing to push for continued support.
The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has eight of its directors in Canberra for this week’s Federal Budget sittings, with Treasurer Josh Frydenburg to share the government’s big spending plans tonight.
Chair Tom Manwaring, vice chairs Graham “Skroo” Turner and Christian Hunter, David Smith, Laura Ruffles, David Greenland, David Padman and Jo Sully are all volunteering their time to spend several days in the nation’s capital lobbying and briefing stakeholders across the political spectrum and participating in all key events.
Australia’s AACB CEO says health events will be pivotal in return of business
The CEO of the Association of Australian Convention Bureaux has said that health events will play a key role in the recovery of Australia’s business events industry.
Andrew Hiebl (pictured left) presented insights from AACB’s ‘Forward Calendar of Business Events’ report during STR Insider, an event which took place in Adelaide this week.
One finding of the report was that 115,000 Australian health professionals are expected to attend domestic conferences and exhibitions across the country over the next six years. Science, financial services and education followed as other key markets.

‘Association Influencers’ is a programme highlighting the outstanding contributions of individuals in the association community across Australia and New Zealand.
Those on the list were selected based on how they demonstrated influence, leadership, resilience and service to the sector over the past 12 months.
It contains a mixture of CEOs, event professionals, general managers and other roles.
