Chakka Jam: Farmers in Punjab, Haryana block national, state highways
Farmers protesting against the Centre s new agri laws and other issues blocked roads at several places in Punjab and Haryana on Saturday on the call given by the farmers unions for a nationwide chakka jam . Farmers unions had on Monday announced a countrywide chakka jam from 12 noon to 3 pm on February 6 when they would block national and state highways in protest against the Internet ban in areas near their agitation sites, harassment allegedly meted out to them by authorities, and other issues.
The police have stepped up security and made all arrangements for traffic diversion, said officials, adding adequate police personnel were deployed in Punjab and Haryana. Protesting farmers owing allegiance to different farmers bodies blocked state and national highways at several places on Saturday, causing inconvenience to commuters.

New Delhi, Feb 06: Security at the city s border points near the three protest sites have been tightened by deploying extra forces and putting up multi-layered barricades, barbed wires and nails studded on the roads ahead of the proposed chakka jam by farmers protesting the Centre s three agri laws, police said on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Police Commissioner S N Shrivastava also held a meeting with the senior officers of the force and reviewed the security arrangements.
The police will also be monitoring content on the social media to keep a watch on those spreading rumours against the force, officials said.
Ahead of Chakka Jam, farmer unions say they will not enter Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 05: The farmer unions protesting against the farm laws announced that no protester will enter Delhi during the three hour nationwide highway blockade to be held tomorrow.
The announcement was made to avoid a repeat of the clashes that took place on Republic Day. Farmer unions have got support from farmers in Haryana and Punjab for the chakka jam, which is scheduled between 12 pm and 3 pm.
On Thursday National Security Advisor met with Union Home Minister, Amit Shah amidst the farmer protests and the propaganda by few foreign personalities.
