Mailloux brings youthful enthusiasm to Orange selectmen’s race MAILLOUX

ORANGE Ryan W. Mailloux feels the town is moving in a positive direction and a jolt of youth could help facilitate that progress.
“I do … believe that bringing in a different generation’s mind will help it get in that direction a little faster,” he said. “I truly believe that the town is ready for a different hand to be in the mix and not necessarily the same hands that have kind of been running the town for years.”
Mailloux turned 24 years old on Oct. 21, making him 34 years younger than Richard Kwiatkowski and 40 years younger than Robert Stack, his opponents in the race for a vacant seat on the Orange Board of Selectmen. The town has scheduled a special election for Tuesday to replace Walter Herk, who resigned on Aug. 31.

Friends of Orange Public Libraries honor staff for NationalLibrary Week
ORANGE The Friends of the Orange Public Libraries expressed their thanks to staff of the Wheeler Memorial and Moore-Leland libraries in recognition of National Library Week last week.

Scholarship applications now available
ORANGE The Orange Scholarship Foundation has announced that 2021 applications for scholarships are available at Ralph C. Mahar Regional School, Wheeler Memorial Library or on the front porch at Witty’s Funeral Home.
The scholarships are open to graduating Mahar seniors and post-graduates, as well as those who are attending or did attend Franklin County Technical School, under the Orange school district. The deadline for submissions is May 25.
Founded in 1961, the Orange Scholarship Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships through investments from residents and corporations, according to Witty’s Funeral Home.

ORANGE The group dedicated to breathing new life into “The Friendly Town” has completed its Orange Historical Walking Map brochure project to help residents and visitors alike better appreciate the area’s past.
The Orange Revitalization Partnership started the project, inspired by its president and former state Rep. Denise Andrews, in 2018, and welcomed a handful of people who explored Orange’s central downtown area, plotted out a pathway and picked which historical buildings to include in the brochure, ultimately deciding on structures relevant to the Industrial Revolution.
