All credit to the Prime Minister for coming out strongly condemning the alleged rape of a young Liberal Party staffer in 2019 (ââWe need to do betterâ: PM apologises for treatment of Higginsâ, The Age, 16/2). Although long overdue it appeared his apology, and subsequent action, was heartfelt and sincere.
Two things are concerning, however. It beggars belief that the PM didnât know of the allegation back in 2019. I would have thought something as heinous as an alleged rape would have been flagged with the PMâs office if not the PM himself at that time. ....

UPDATE Melbourne suburbs declared as hotspots

Please note Brandon Park has been removed as a hotspot and replaced by Wheelers Hill.
This follows on from a male hall monitor working at a hotel quarantine facility testing positive to COVID-19. The man visited a number of locations across Melbourne before developing COVID-19 symptoms and getting tested. Victoria Health Authorities have implemented a number of public health controls to prevent any spread of COVID-19.
Anyone travelling to the Northern Territory from a COVID-19 Hotspot must undertake 14 days of mandatory, supervised quarantine at the Alice Springs or Howard Springs quarantine facilities. Quarantine will be undertaken at the first urban centre you arrive at, including for transit. ....

Like many, I was saddened by Margaret Courtâs AC. Court has already received an Order of Australia award recognising her service. As with at least two of last yearâs awards she is a controversial figure with loudly advocated extremist opinions, hurtful and socially damaging to many, and certain to provoke Australians who value diversity, tolerance and non-extreme views. Is the Council for the Order of Australia insensitive, or deliberately provocative? ....
