BEATTYVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) â Lee County Judge Executive Chuck Caudill has declared a state of emergency for the county as officials try to assess and clear flooded waters and mud damage.
In Beattyville, mudslides have HWY 52 shut down as crews try to scrape debris and mud from the roadway.

Officials say the county has experienced torrential rainfall on Thursday and Friday. The rain caused waterways to leave their banks and damage roads, trees, and bridges. Many people living there now have limited access to food, medical care, and other services.

BEATTYVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) â Just ten weeks ago most of these people wouldnât have had time for a celebration. They were busy saving a small town.
âItâs been a lot faster than I thought,â said Lee County EMS Director, Jon Allen. âTheyâre tough and they donât like to be told they canât do something,â he said of this townâs residents and business owners.
In early March, much of the downtown Beattyville area was drowning in historic flooding. The Kentucky river swelled following a night of intense rain. It made Main Street accessible by boat only. Incredibly, no one died or was seriously injured during that episode.

Beattyville benefit concert raises money for businesses impacted by flooding

BEATTYVILLE, Ky. â The Downtown Beattyville Alliance and Lee County Tourism Commission hosted a benefit concert on Saturday to raise money for businesses affected by historic flooding in March.
âWe need [businesses] to get opened up and back going again to bring life back to our town and just get back to normalcy,â said Lee County Tourism Director Dedra Brandenburg.
81 businesses in Beattyville were affected by the historic March flood and many have struggled to recover because of the severity of the damage, according to Brandenburg.
