SAA starts dispensing severance packages to crew and staff

JOHANNESBURG - SOUTH African Airways (SAA) said yesterday that it had started dispensing the first portions of payments to workers who took voluntary severance packages (VSPs) at the end of August last year.
SAA business rescue practitioners said they would pay the first portion of VSPs to the airline s management, specialists and pilots today.
This follows the first portion of payment made to cabin crew members and ground staff employees on Friday.
Cabin crew and ground staff workers were paid one month s notice payment, full entitlement of accrued leave, pro rata 13th cheque and the 2019 salary increase of 5.9 percent backpay. ....

Air Namibia flights halted as it goes into voluntary liquidation

Air Namibia has halted all flight operations as from Thursday, 11 February.
In an urgent notice to all stakeholders the management said all of its aircraft will be grounded at its base. No new bookings can be made and passengers with existing tickets can register for refunds.
The Namibian Cabinet has since approved the voluntary liquidation of Air Namibia, The Namibian Sun announced on Thursday. Earlier this month the board of the airline resigned and three new appointees will oversee the process going forward.
Air Namibia has a debt payment of more than N$104 million due to a European creditor next week. ....

Court's database server trips up urgent application by unions against SAA

SA Express liquidation hearing postponed - again - as purchase deal hangs in limbo

SA Express was placed under provisional liquidation in April 2020 after its business rescue process failed.

An equity crowdsourcing proposal by a group called Fly SAX, backed by some employees, was selected as the preferred bid.
The return date to determine if state-owned regional airline SA Express (SAX) has to be placed in liquidation has once again been postponed.
On Thursday the court agreed to extend it until 29 April 2021. The aim is still to provide more time to try to save the airline. ....
