7 Outstanding Honourees Inducted Into Singapore Women's Hall of Fame 2021

To commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) this year, which is also the Year of Celebrating SG Women, the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) inducted seven ladies, six of them posthumously, into the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame (SWHF).
At the induction ceremony held at the Istana on March 8, Singapore president Halimah Yacob, who is also SCWO patron and a 2014 SWHF honouree, presented trophies to pioneering dancer and choreographer Santha Bhaskar, as well as the representatives of pioneering public health nurse Ida Mabel Murray Simmons, outstanding sportswoman and educator Mae Noeline Oehlers, pioneering illustrator Kwan Shan Mei, pioneering social worker, educator and activist Myrna Braga-Blake, trailblazing sports administrator and lawyer Annabel Pennefather, and the first female commercial pilot Teo Ah Hong. ....

Honouring women pioneers: Pioneering dancer and choreographer Santha Bhaskar, 81, was one of seven women inducted into the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame at the Istana yesterday. Mrs Bhaskar was presented with the Hall of Fame trophy by President Halimah Yacob. Mrs Bhaskar was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 1990 and the Public Service Star in 2016. This well-loved fictional autobiography of a horse follows his life from farm birth, through his years of cab-pulling in London, to his eventual retirement. Sewell keenly observes horse behaviour, portrays human capacity for cruelty and kindness, and raises awareness of the treatment of horses at her time.
