MONTREAL Under the slogan, “Sound the alarm for public services,” over 1,000 teachers, nurses and other government workers simultaneously rallied at the Quebec National Assembly in Quebec City and at Premier Francois Legault’s office here in downtown  March 31.
They insist the government stop using the pandemic as an excuse to refuse to meet demands for better working conditions, wage increases and to improve education, health and other services. ....

Quebec to spend $660 million to bring high-speed Internet to all households by fall of 2022


 
MONTREAL
The Quebec provincial government announced on Tuesday a major investment aimed at bringing high-speed Internet access to even the remotest parts of the province.
Treasury Board President Sonia LeBel unveiled new appropriations totalling $1.9 billion. In a press release from the Treasury Board secretariat, the high-speed expansion project was the only one listed with a specific dollar amount: $660 million.
According to the statement, the goal is to expand high-speed access to “all Quebec households by fall of 2022.”
The press release noted that the pandemic and ensuing confinement have demonstrated the extent to which reliable access to the Internet has become a crucial part of life, as teleworking, distanced education and isolation have become a common experience. ....

If you are worried about the quality of your food, and in particular your milk, you needn’t be. That is the message from Jim Johnston who, in addition to being the mayor of Melbourne Township, is also a fifth-generation farmer whose 60 dairy cows produce some 1,500 litres of milk a day.
Jim, who owns and operates Teebrook Farm with his son, Josh, knows about milk quality. In 2019 and 2020 their herd won awards for milk quality from both the Quebec Federation of Milk Producers and from Agropur. ....
