The Association of Clovis Educators filed a complaint with the Public Employment Relations Board alleging Clovis Unified has violated the law for 38 years.
Taking the bench from social interaction, recess and sports. Not having sports, not having recess, you know the kids tend to have anxiety, stress, depression sets in, sleeping disorders, said Kepler Neighborhood School athletic director Elliott Murray.
Getting back to the basics could take some time. They haven t been in a school building in a year. They ll be getting used to the routines and rules and structures again, added Trippel.
But the time apart has had some perks; for some students, it s been an opportunity to grow closer to siblings and parents. We watch their family bonds grow tighter because of the things they re doing at home now, said Trippel.

But because of the pandemic, organizers moved the event online. Part of the conference is about socializing with their friends and with peers across the five areas here in Clovis Unified, says Learning Director Jennifer Thao. So they miss having that big conference, that interaction with each other.
The school district says they previously had to turn away students when they reached max capacity but because of the online format, everyone can participate. It s different, says Julie Vang.
But the goals remain the same. Students can learn and be able to gather information about different careers, Thao said.

The district is working with multiple clinics to try and get as many staffers inoculated as possible.
Teachers and essential education support staff, along with childcare workers can now sign up for their first dose of the COVID-19 shot. We have worked to provide vaccination opportunities for all of our employees who are opting for vaccination, said Clovis Unified spokesperson Kelly Avants.
More than 20,000 Clovis Unified students are already back on campus learning in face-to-face classes.
Now, the district is working with local healthcare providers, including the Baz Allergy Institute and Sierra Pacific Orthopedics Center, to get its employees vaccinated.
