Holcomb sues in bid to void emergency bill
Says passed law is unconstitutional

INDIANAPOLIS – Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb filed suit Tuesday against the Indiana General Assembly and its GOP leaders, claiming they approved an unconstitutional law. But procedural issues might stop the court case before that question is determined.
That s because Attorney General Todd Rokita said Holcomb has no right to sue.
Holcomb is asking a Marion County judge for a permanent injunction blocking a new law allowing lawmakers to call themselves in for emergency session.
“I took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the State of Indiana and I have an obligation to do so. This filing is about the future of the executive branch and all the Governors who will serve long after I m gone,” Holcomb said in a news release. ....

INDIANAPOLIS – Democrat Trish Whitcomb dropped out of the race for state party chair Monday after her son unexpectedly died Sunday.
It is with deep sorrow that I announce I am withdrawing my candidacy for state Democratic party chair. I experienced an unimaginable loss on Sunday when my son died unexpectedly. As any parent can imagine, there is no way I can continue my candidacy to become the next leader of the state Democratic party, a statement from Whitcomb said.
I will continue to work with the party in the future to ensure we have strong candidates and campaigns in any capacity that I can. I appreciate the opportunity to run and wish the next Chair all the best. ....

Trish Whitcomb withdrew from the race to become the next chair of the Indiana Democratic Party Monday following a tragedy in her family.
Whitcomb announced that her son died unexpectedly Sunday. In a statement, the one-time campaign manager for former State Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz said she couldn’t continue her candidacy following the “unimaginable loss.”
Whitcomb’s departure from the race leaves two candidates: Mike Schmuhl, who ran Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign, and Morgan County Democratic Party Chair Tom Wallace. ....
