This past week, June 7 through June 13, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 47 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.
Battery stolen from RV trailer in Invermere
On Wednesday, June 9, a resident on Laurier Street in Invermere discovered someone had stolen the battery out of his RV trailer, which had been parked on his property. The theft was believed to have occurred sometime between June 7 and 9.
Windermere gas station broken into
On Saturday, June 12, Columbia Valley RCMP received a report of a break and enter at the Centex gas station on Highway 93/95 in Windermere. Staff arrived in the morning to discover someone had broken a window to gain entry. Video surveillance showed two individuals wearing hoodies, gloves and masks break the glass in order to unlock the door then proceed to take several packages of cigarettes before departing northbound in a smal ....

Communities look ahead to create places people can enjoy
As days grow warmer, people in the Columbia Basin are looking forward to enjoying outdoor spaces those in nature, and those in our communities. Looking ahead to times when restrictions ease, many communities are wondering how they can make the gathering places within their limits more welcoming and useable, or how they can add new ones altogether.
To realize their ideas, some communities have turned to Columbia Basin Trust’s Community Outdoor Revitalization Grants. Currently, this program is providing over $1.3 million to help 10 communities undertake such projects.

Plans for 'pay by phone' parking only in some Haringey roads

Plans to introduce changes to the payment methods to park in a number of roads in Haringey have been published.
A notice from Haringey Council in this week’s edition of the Enfield Independent outlines a proposal to convert shared some permit holders and ‘pay by phone’ parking places in eight controlled parking zones into ‘pay by phone’ only.
The order is scheduled to come into effect from March 27 and it will affect the following parking zones and locations: ....

Murder investigation launched after father and son found dead in Scotland

Police have launched a murder inquiry after a father and son were found dead in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland two days before Christmas.
Police Scotland named the victims as 16-year-old Antoni Thomas and 40-year-old Seweryn Thomas.
Their bodies were discovered at around 4.10pm on Wednesday 23 December at a house in Grainger Road, Bishopbriggs.
Detective Inspector Stevie Watson, of Kirkintilloch CID, said enquiries are still at an early stage.
“Our thoughts are with Antoni and Seweryn’s family at this very difficult time and we are providing them support,” DI Watson said. ....

Father, 40, 'stabbed his16-year-old son to death then killed himself in murder-suicide' at home

Tributes have been paid to a gifted 16-year-old boy after it is believed he was stabbed to death by his father who then killed himself at their family home.
Tony Thomas, 16, was called a trailblazer and big brother by his kayaking club with friends describing him as gentle, motivated and smiling .
Police Scotland launched a murder investigation after Tony Thomas and his dad Seweryn, 40, were found dead at their home in Bishopbriggs, Glasgow, last Wednesday.
Tributes have been paid to Tony Thomas, 16, after he was reportedly stabbed to death by his father Seweryn who then killed himself. Tony was a talented athlete set to study law next year ....
