SPRINGFIELD Faced with what he describes as a lack of cooperation from federal officials, Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni filed a lawsuit Wednesday seeking records from the U.S. attorney’s office in Boston that could identify police officers who used excessive force and then lied about it.
The suit stems from last summer’s U.S. Department of Justice report on the Springfield Police Department’s narcotics unit. Based on a two-year investigation, the report outlined numerous allegations of city police officers physically abusing suspects and filing false reports, and supervisors looking the other way. The report was met with considerable pu ....

Police misconduct Worcester district attorney civil rights violations

WORCESTER Three years ago Monday, the lawyer who handles appeals for Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. reached out to a colleague in Boston to ask about that office’s long-running conviction integrity unit.
“We have to get something going here,” the Worcester prosecutor, Jane A. Sullivan, wrote in an email just before 1 p.m. on April 19, 2018.

Records obtained by the Telegram & Gazette show that Early would, within a month of receiving Pineiro’s complaint, assign a prosecutor to look into its claims and add a section to his website referencing a “Litigation Integrity Division.” ....

ACLU calls on Supreme Judicial Court to order investigation into Springfield Police Department over excessive force allegations

ACLU calls on Supreme Judicial Court to order investigation into Springfield Police Department over excessive force allegations
Updated Apr 06, 2021;
SPRINGFIELD The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit against the Hampden district attorney’s office over what the advocacy group characterizes as a failure to investigate allegations of excessive force by the Springfield Police Department.
The 353-page complaint petitions the Supreme Judicial Court to force a closer examination of accusations leveled in a U.S. Department of Justice report made public in July.
In the report, federal investigators concluded members of the department’s narcotics unit routinely resorted to punching suspects in the head and neck and filed shoddy reports over physical altercations, if they filed any at all. ....
