Thieves caused thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to a BP gas station on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe City during a smash and grab robbery Feb. 13.

GROSSE POINTE CITY Longtime business owners are vowing to rebuild after an unidentified group of suspects rammed a pickup truck into their gas station Feb. 13 to break loose a safe that had been bolted to the floor.
Cameron and Karen Lawrence have owned the BP gas station at the corner of Mack Avenue and Rivard Boulevard for the last 30 years. They’ve long given back to local Little League and Red Baron football programs and have hosted car washes for booster clubs, and the support they’ve extended to the community is now coming back to them. ....

GROSSE POINTES/HARPER WOODS Grosse Pointe City’s new public safety building which opened Aug. 29 features new training areas and equipment, including a fire training tower and the VirTra computerized simulator where officers can work on de-escalation and other skills.
And while the facility belongs to the City, the City is inviting its mutual aid partners the other four Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods to take advantage of training opportunities available in its new building.
The Grosse Pointe City Council voted unanimously at a meeting by Zoom Jan. 11 in favor of the agreement. ....

GROSSE POINTE CITY As work continues to study the possible historical significance of some structures in Grosse Pointe City, a moratorium to block demolition of homes or the construction of new homes in certain areas has been extended.
The Grosse Pointe City Council voted unanimously at a Jan. 11 meeting by Zoom to extend a moratorium prohibiting the tearing down of primary and coach houses, as well as to prevent the building of new houses, in much of the Estate-Residential district.
The decision continues the six-month moratorium approved unanimously by the council during a Zoom meeting July 20. ....
