Sen. Tom Bakk, I-Cook, led the Minnesota Senate's bonding committee into Duluth on Thursday, intent to hear more about the $5 billion worth of projects in need of state money.
The second phase of a housing initiative along Conifer Avenues has been finished. The $10 million, 32-unit Conifer Villas project was finished recently and the third phase, East Conifer Estates, is expected to be finished in August 2022.

ELY – A public bid opening last Thursday for the first phase of a multi-year building and facility renovation project for the Ely school district gave construction managers and district officials an idea of the real-world cost expectations, estimated to cost about $20 million.
Project construction manager Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. hosted the bid opening in the Washington School auditorium. Just a couple of contractors, a representative from Architectural Resources, Inc., two ISD 696 staff members, a school board member, and a member of the local media witnessed the arduous task of opening and tabulating the sealed bids on more than 30 work scopes.
Judge orders Duluth to undertake work on Kozy building

The Duluth Economic Development Authority must temporarily stabilize the facade of the Pastoret Terrace building as litigation continues over the future of the fire-ravaged structure, a judge ruled.
The exterior bracing, designed to prevent an outward collapse, is expected to come with a price tag of approximately $88,225, according to an estimate recently provided to the court.
That’s the 92-year-old building where Minneapolis-based
Kraus-Anderson Construction Co.housed its Rochester office from 2012 to 2018, when it moved to 501 on First at 501 First Ave. SW.
“It’s accessible to everything. We’re excited to be part of downtown,” RGI Co-owner
Bucky Beeman said of the move. “We’re still bullish on downtown and what it has to offer businesses.”
After many years on the third floor of the
ONB Bank Building at 975 34th Ave. NW, this shift puts RGI in a much more prominent spot.
“It’s accessible for everything,” he said. “We’re excited about the additional visibility for our brand and our management team, which is starting to manage a lot of apartments and commercial properties.”
