Number of unintentional OD deaths in Crawford County jumped in 2020

BUCYRUS - Although the COVID-19 pandemic may have been a factor, fentanyl is being blamed for a jump in the number of unintentional overdose deaths in 2020. According to the 2020 Crawford County Drug Overdose Fatality Review report, 16 people 10 women and six men died last year, up from 11 in 2019. Ages ranged from 22 to 47, with an average of 34. Fentanyl was listed in the toxicology reports for 11 of the 16 fatal overdoses, or 69%. In all, 140 unintentional overdoses were reported in 2020, a slight decrease from 2019, when the county had 144, after peaking at 157 in 2018.  The report also notes that those 16 deaths left at least 20 minor children without a parent, a statistic that demands action, two committee members said.

Registered nurse will join Crawford County Board of Health Submitted BUCYRUS - A registered nurse whose work involves preparing the region s health-care system for emergencies has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Crawford County Board of Health. Jodi Keller, who lives in Liberty Township just east of the Bucyrus, will serve through March 2025, according to a news release from Crawford County Public Health.  Keller was selected during a special meeting of the Crawford County District Advisory Council on Monday. The council reviewed and discussed six candidates prior to making the appointment, which was announced by DAC Chairman Milton Underwood.

Crawford County Fair Board Providing Passes to COVID-19 Vaccine Recipients

May 13, 2021 Bucyrus, OH – The third week of July will be here soon and the Crawford County Senior Fair Board can’t wait for everyone to come out and enjoy the fair. The 164th Annual Crawford County Fair will run July 19th – 24th and the theme this year is “American flair at our fair.” To support local efforts to provide COVID-19 vaccine, the fair board has provided Crawford County Public Health with 100 one-day passes to distribute to people that get a COVID-19 vaccine between May 17 – 21, 2021. Rebecca Miller, Crawford County Fair Secretary/Manager proposed the idea of thanking people that get vaccinated before attending the fair this summer. “Supporting efforts geared at ending the pandemic and getting our lives back to normal just makes sense.
