April 22: Weekly Driftless Region COVID-19 update
DRIFTLESS - Over the past week COVID-19, diagnoses statewide increased from 587,710 on Monday, Apr. 12 to 590,831 on Monday, Apr. 19. That is a statewide increase of 5,121 cases. The number of deaths increased from 6,680 to 6,710, an additional 30 deaths, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS).
As of Monday, April 19, there have been 212 million vaccine doses administered in the U.S., and more than half of U.S. adults have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. There have now been 31,484,148 cases of COVID in the U.S., and 564,292 deaths.
The state Department of Health Services (DHS) reported its seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases has declined for four consecutive days. It s been a month (March 20) since that last occurred. The seven-day average number of COVID-19 in-patients, as tracked by the Wisconsin Hospital Association, has risen for 13 consecutive days.

Children ages 16 and 17 who are not emancipated must have parent or legal guardian consent. Parents and guardians are not required to accompany the minor to receive the vaccine. The Pfizer vaccine will be used for these clinics and is authorized for ages 16 and older. At this time, students will be the only ones able to receive the vaccination at these two clinics. The local health departments along with other local providers have indicated that they have availability for any parents that are interested in receiving the vaccination.

The number of deaths increased from 6,640 to 6,680, an additional 40 deaths, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS).
According to the Monday, April 12 issue of Up North News, the state Department of Health Services (DHS) reported 10 deaths from COVID-19 from Friday through Sunday, raising the state s pandemic death toll to 6,677.
The seven-day average number of new COVID-19 cases had risen for nine consecutive days until Sunday. Hospitalizations remained stable over the weekend.
COVID-19: Vaccination clinics for students to be held later this month
Registration necessary; two dates set
Two vaccination clinics will be held later this month specifically for students ages 16 and older in Richland and Crawford counties.
Students interested in receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine, the only vaccine approved for use via emergency authorization in people 16 and older, must pre-register by noon Monday.
Students ages 16 and 17 who are not emancipated must get permission from their parent or legal guardian to get the first of two shots, though parents are not required to accompany students to the clinics, which are being hosted by the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center and Galion City Schools, in partnership with Discount Drug Mart, Richland Public Health, Crawford County Public Health and Galion Health Department.
