NUR-SULTAN. KAZINFORM Deputy Chairman of the Kazakh Senate Askar Shakirov met with a delegation of the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine who arrived to monitor parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan, Kazinform reports.
Vice-Speaker briefed on preparations for the forthcoming elections highlighting significance of international observers participation in the election process.
As stated there, Kazakhstan attaches great attention to organization of the election process in strict adherence with the generally accepted standards. The country takes all necessary measures to provide the proper level of holding elections taking into account recommendations of influential international organizations. ....

ALMATY China has built more than 100 new facilities in Xinjiang where it can not only lock people up, but also force them to work in dedicated factory buildings right on site, BuzzFeed News can reveal based on government records, interviews, and hundreds of satellite images.
In August, BuzzFeed News uncovered hundreds of compounds in Xinjiang bearing the hallmarks of prisons or detention camps, many built during the last three years in a rapid escalation of China’s campaign against Muslim minorities including Uighurs, Kazakhs, and others. A new analysis shows that at least 135 of these compounds also hold factory buildings. Forced labor on a vast scale is almost certainly taking place inside facilities like these, according to researchers and interviews with former detainees. ....

This week, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with officials responsible for shepherding the Kazakh language from its present Cyrillic script into a Latin alphabet. As reported by RFE/RL, Tokayev asked “Culture Minister Aqtoty Raiymqulova and Education Minister Askhat Aimaghambetov to work with experts on the alphabet and present their work to a national commission working on the issue.”
