Volunteer Village in Hendersonville and road work may spur redevelopment


Renovations of a longtime Hendersonville shopping center are nearly finished with more redevelopment for the property planned around a road project.
The awkward intersection of West Main Street with Walton Ferry on one side and Old Shackle Island Road on the other will be realigned in a project that has right-of-way acquisition underway, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Right-of-way included the old Volunteer State Bank that is now demolished, TDOT spokesperson Kathryn Schulte said.
The road project is designed to improve efficiency, safety and traffic flow, Hendersonville officials said.
“However, the improvement to the intersection will most likely encourage additional investment and redevelopment within the West Main corridor,” Planning Director Keith Free said. ....

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A truck hit a road work crew s attenuator while they were making pothole repairs on Interstate 24 Monday night.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation crew was on I-24 in Antioch when officials say a pickup hauling a trailer with construction supplies hit the work zone.
TDOT s Kathryn Schulte says the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the attenuator behind the TDOT trucks, causing the truck to roll over and totaling the attenuator. No TDOT employees were hurt in the crash. ....

Six Tennessee weather-related deaths reported by TEMA


A bit more snow is possible across Middle Tennessee Thursday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
That added to the 1.5 to 2 inches of snow and sleet that already accumulated throughout the week, NWS Nashville meteorologist James LaRosa said.
Nashville saw between 2 and 3 inches, while areas further west and south saw 3 to 4. Waynesboro received between 4 and 6 inches, and Clarksville accumulated between 1 and 2.
Another round of winter weather may bring ice and up to an additional inch of snow, NWS said. 
A winter weather advisory expired Thursday night.
Officials urged caution if travel was absolutely essential, recommending keeping an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of emergency. The latest road conditions can also be found by calling 511. ....

Nashville and Middle Tennessee awakened Thursday to a fresh blanket of snow. Between two and five inches fell overnight, according to the National Weather Service. That added to the 1.5 to 2 inches of snow and sleet that already accumulated throughout the week, NWS Nashville meteorologist James LaRosa said.

Interstate 65 southbound was shut down near the Interstate 840 interchange in Williamson County on Thursday after truck jack-knifed and extreme ice built up, the Franklin Police Department reported.
