Krzysztof Witiw Grays: Biker died after crashing into tree

A ‘COMPETENT’ motorcyclist died as he hit a tree after losing control of his bike, an inquest heard. Krzysztof Witiw, 39, from Grays, died in the crash in High Road, Langdon Hills on Saturday July 4 last year. The inquest held at Essex Coroners Court in Chelmsford yesterday heard how he was on a day out with his friend and lost control of his Suzuki motorbike after overtaking a car. A statement from his grieving friend Jaroslaw Grochouski, who was with Mr Witiw on the day of the crash, was read out to the court. He said he rushed to help and feared the worse after seeing the bike hit a tree.

The statement said: “Krzysztof was taking the curves quicker than I was but there was no cause for alarm as he was a competent rider. He overtook the car and it was safe to do so. “I stayed behind and the next time I saw him was when he was in the air and I saw his bike hit a large tree. The road had recently been resurfaced and it looked like he hit loose chippings and it was too late to correct the bike. I am very sad to have lost a good friend.” Katherine Burke, a police office at Essex Police’s forensic collision investigation unit, gave evidence to the court.
