The beginning of October was always a busy time at Knoebels Amusement Resort as the park near Elysburg hosts the Covered Bridge and Arts Festival. But for the first time in the festival s nearly 40 year history, it will now be held somewhere else. Starting this year, the Covered Bridge and Arts Festival will move to the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds. The festival itself has just really outgrown Knoebels Amusement Resort and I think the family would be the first to tell you that, said Otto Kurecian, Columbia Montour Visitors Bureau Executive Director. ....

With dozens of rides, games, and food stands, it takes a lot of people to run Knoebels Amusement Resort. Typically, the park in Elysburg has around 2,300 full-time and seasonal employees. But this year is different. We have about 1,500 employees that have come back and worked with us. We re looking to bring on around 300 more as we progress through the summer, said Jonathan Anderson, the human resources manager at Knoebels. Anderson says that to give guests the proper Knoebels experience, he needs to hire around 300 more employees. ....

Everywhere you look, there is something happening this week at Knoebels Amusement Resort. The park near Elysburg opens for the season this weekend. The season was cut short last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Knoebels is opening on time this year. The park s opening will look similar to last year. There will be plexiglass barriers, social-distancing markers, hand sanitizing stations, and mask requirements. Even if you are double vaccinated, you have to continue to wear a mask, said co-owner Brian Knoebel. ....
