GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina man has been arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm as a convicted felon after attempting to kill a woman, according to a federal prosecutor.
G. Norman Acker III, acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, said in a news release Thursday that Errol Rahnell Taheim Baston, 36, of Winterville was arrested by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives agents.
The news release said the charges stem from a domestic incident in which Baston reportedly held a woman against her will, repeatedly assaulted and choked her and attempted to drown her in a bathtub. ....

Goldsboro gang leader sentenced to 18 years

A Goldsboro man, authorities identified as a gang leader, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for charges related to trafficking methamphetamine.
Twenty-four-year-old Tierea Demon Atkins, also known as “Red Dot, was convicted of conspiring to distribute and possessing with an intent to distribute 50 grams or more of meth, aiding and abetting and distributing 50 grams or more of meth.
Prosecutors say Atkins was a local leader of the Bloods gang in Goldsboro and was responsible for distributing more than 22 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine between May 2018 and February 2020.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case conducting controlled purchases of crystal meth from individuals supplied by Atkins, according to court records. ....

A former Fort Bragg soldier was sentenced to over 12 years in prison after admitting to investigators that he had intercourse with a 12-year-old girl and staged her kidnapping, the Justice Department announced on Tuesday.
G. Norman Acker III, who is the acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, announced James Murdoch Peele of South Carolina was sentenced to 151 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Louise Flanagan for transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. ....
