COLLINS, Miss. (WDAM) - Organizers of the Okatoma Festival on Saturday are more than pleased with the number of visitors who came to town.
The Covington County Chamber of Commerce estimates more than 12,000 people took part in the event, which featured live music, carnival rides, a car show and lots of different types of food.
“People were parked for blocks and blocks away and the crowd continued to come into 7 o’clock, so it was a wonderful day,” said Marie Shoemake, executive director of the Covington County Chamber of Commerce. “The weather was perfect and people were ready to get out.”

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - The 32nd Okatoma Festival in Collins took place Saturday, after being canceled due to the pandemic in 2020 and being shut down early in 2019 because of stormy weather.
âPeople are just enjoying it, smiling, talking, visiting with their neighbors that they hadnât seen in over a year, you know, so itâs just got a wonderful spirit, itâs just a joyful time of year and weâre just so happy that itâs turned out,â said Marie Shoemake, executive director of the Covington County Chamber of Commerce.

COLLINS, Miss. (WDAM) - Organizers of the annual Okatoma Festival in Covington County are hoping for a little good luck as they prepare to host the event this Saturday, May 1.
It’s an all-day event around the Covington County Courthouse in Collins.
Two years ago, bad weather forced an early end to the festival and last year, it was canceled because of the pandemic.
This year, it’s back on again, with food and carnival rides and live music from local country singer Cadie Calhoun.
