Gram of Panchayats of Goa under the aegis Goa Mining People s Front (GMPF) have appealed to the Supreme Court for immediate resumption of mining in Goa as the state is witnessing a grave situation and extra ordinary circumstances. Since the suspension of mining in Goa (March 2018), livelihoods of mining dependents from state are in doldrums and are in search of prosperity and the pursuit of happiness.

Image Source: IANS News Panaji, April 28 : Dependents on Goa s beleaguered mining industry have raised concerns over the delay in the hearing of the pending cases in the Supreme Court of India, filed by the Goa government and a private mining company, which have sought resumption of mining in the coastal state. The Goa Mining People s Front, a collective of now-unemployed mining industry workers and owners of businesses linked to the industry, also said in a statement on Wednesday, that resumption of mining in the state could help Goa s economy, which has witnessed a dip following the setback to the tourism industry in the wake of the second Covid wave, which has gripped the country.

Image Source: IANS News Panaji, March 16 : An umbrella body of a collective of unemployed mining industry dependants on Tuesday charged the BJP-led government in the state as well as the Centre of not doing enough to restart the beleaguered mining industry in the state, which has been non functional since 2018, following a Supreme Court directive. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Goa Mining People s Front, which comprises of unemployed mining company workers and owners of allied businesses linked to the industry, has also said that it was exactly three years after the mining industry shut down in Goa and there was dire need to resume mining operations in the interest of three lakh livelihoods which were dependent on the industry for their survival.
