LITTLE litter pickers are following in the footsteps of famous children s fictional TV characters. Inspired by Uncle Bulgaria and his friends who tidy up after humans on Wimbledon Common, Little Wombles of Winsford have vowed to pick up rubbish dumped on the ground. The idea is the brainchild of Steve Edwards who launched Winsford Litter Project a year ago to restore pride in the town. Our group is going from strength to strength, said Steve, who lives near The Flashes. We now have more than 460 members. So many kids go out litter picking with their parents, I thought it would be good for them to have t heir own group. ....
CREATIVE photographers are being given an exciting challenge. Winsford s French twin town Deuil-la-barre is holding a nature exhibition and has invited residents here to take part. The celebration, La Fete de la Nature, takes place on Thursday, May 6. The exhibition will focus on magnificent trees and will display pictures captured by people living in France and England. Cllr Lyndsay Barwell, chairman of the open spaces committee, said: I m looking forward to seeing magnificent trees from Deuil-la-barre and sharing ours. My personal favourite is Winsford s willow trees. Everyone is welcome to take part in the photography competition. Deputy mayor of Winsford Cllr Nathan Pardoe said: “It s great to see our twin town, Deuil-la-Barre, reach out and ask Winsford residents to get involved in their tree exhibition. ....
STAFF at a Shell garage in Winsford paid a moving tribute to a much-loved work colleague. Brian Clarke, 62, a forecourt attendant who worked at the garage for nine years, died suddenly at the end of January. Colleagues from the petrol station and Spar shop joined employees from Ladbrokes, where Brian also worked, as his hearse drove into the Delamere Street garage yesterday, Tuesday. The Manchester City fan, who lived in Winsford, was remembered as Blue Moon was played through speakers and blue and white balloons were released. Hamish Gooley, a supervisor at the garage Spar shop, said: Brian was lovely, a really nice person to work with. ....
