For Tool, this was a long road towards his latest accomplishment as a wrestler. From starting to wrestle at the young age of three to being a four-time state medalist, Tool tells KNIA Sports that it was his ability to lead that was his ultimate accomplishment at PCM.
“That’s what I would come away with as my biggest accomplishment and what I took most pride in, helping out the younger guys. Being the situations I have been in and helping them along the way.”

During his senior year, Tool finished 1st at 152 lbs in five of the six tournaments he competed in. The only tournament where he didn’t finish in the top spot was the Ed Winger Classic at Urbandale, where he placed 2nd. Tool also finished 1st in both his sectional and district competitions, and placed 5th in the Class 2A State Championship, winning his 5th-place match over Grifen Molle of Notre Dame/W.B./Danville by fall. ....
Several area high school wrestlers qualified for the 2021 state meet. Pella is sending two wrestlers after placing 2nd at the Class 3A District 5 meet at Iowa City West, including two-time qualifier and heavyweight Kody Huisman and 160 pound Senior Ryan Van Donselaar, who placed 2nd in his bracket. PCM is sending Landon Fenton, Colby Tool, and Cooper Sloan to Wells Fargo Arena. Tool is a four-time state qualifier and Fenton has made it to his 2nd straight appearance. The 2021 Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament is in Des Moines this Thursday through Saturday. ....
Class 1A and 2A wrestling sectionals are today around the state. Knoxville will host a class 2A sectional meet with PCM joining the Panthers along with Bondurant-Farrar, North Polk, Ballard, and Saydel. Bondurant-Farrar may be one of the favorites to win the meet as the Blue Jays have four wrestlers ranked in the top ten according to The Predicament’s latest rankings that came out on Thursday and the Blue Jays are ranked #10 as a team. PCM’s Landon Fenton is 4th in the 145 pound weight class and Colby Tool is 4th at 152 pounds. While Knoxville does not have a wrestler in the top ten, the Panthers have been seeing vast improvement up and down the line up and Coach Doug Hatch hopes to see several of his guys in contention for a spot at districts next Saturday. The top two finishers in each weight class qualify for the district next Saturday which takes place at ADM, and the top two teams will qualify for the regional duals this coming Tuesday at a site to be determined. ....
The PCM Mustangs wrestling squad hit the mats for the second day in a row at the Ed Winger Classic in Urbandale, which featured 22 different schools Saturday. The Mustangs finished towards the middle of the bunch in 14th and accumulated 58.5 total points. This was the first meet of the year where the Mustangs didn’t have an athlete finish first in his weight class. State medalist Colby Tool, fresh off a 152 pound title Friday, finished second Saturday after just his second loss of the season. Returning state tournament participant Landon Fenton, who has missed some time recently, suffered his first defeat of the year, finishing third at 145 pounds. ....
