When I was in college, one fraternity was known for offering pretty horrific free beers at their weekly parties but if you were a friend of a member, you could ask for something better, using the code word “sweet beers.” I was lucky enough to have access to the secret repository of Anchor Steams and Henry Weinhard’s, even though my own dorm fridge was usually filled with Schmidt or Red, White and Blue.
Local breweries Tennessee Brew Works and Black Abbey are embracing the concept of sweet beers, but in a slightly different way. At TBW, they have partnered with local confectionary Colt’s Chocolate Co to release a new Double Chocolate Raspberry Stout in time for Valentine’s Day. Now available at their taproom, the Colt’s concoction is served on draft or in 12 oz. bottles with a limit of four per person, per purchase.
