After much more discussion, the Lee County School Board further laid out the steps it will take to take to search for an interim superintendent during a workshop on May 4.
The board discussed the language for its job position posting, outlets and budget to list the job post and three potential consultants.
After a very lengthy discussion, the board agreed that the verbiage of three years of effective, or highly effective public school classroom teaching experience was not needed as an essential job function qualification.
Debates heating up over replacement
The seven-member board will be seeking a short-term replacement to work while undergoing a national search for a permanent replacement.
Local consultants Joe Mazurkiewicz, Cole Peacock and Scott Kashman will be working with the board members to find an interim superintendent.
The debates grew heated at times.
“It has already taken us two hours to make one decision,” said District 3 board member Chris Patricca. “A highly-functioning board would have done this in half an hour.”
Said District 6 and vice-chair Betsy Vaughn, looking at her watch: “We’re just not getting anywhere.”
But finally, the board reached the conclusions to advertise the job Friday with the consultants available to assist.
SWFL businesses prepare for COVID-19 vaccine

Since the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine, Wall Street has started to stabilize, and new optimism has emerged for the places where we shop. Now local business owners wonder what the next step will be to get back to normal.
Cole Peacock, owner of Seed & Bean Market in Fort Myers, says the key to keeping the doors of his coffee shop open has been safety, and if vaccinations become part of that, he is not opposed.
“I think it’s just going to have to come down to, sometimes, employee choice, and really what’s best for the business, and in the restaurant industry what’s best for the patrons that are coming in and out,” Peacock said.
Courts force Governor DeSantis to release COVID-19 report
Reset
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The White House Coronavirus Task Force says Florida is in the “red zone” for COVID-19 cases, meaning the virus is spreading fast.
The latest report from December 6 shows the state had 280 new cases per 100,000 people.
But Governor Ron DeSantis is not taking any of the steps suggested in the report.
The 14-page report recommends Florida take some strict measures, including wearing a mask in public and more social distancing. That could mean closing indoor spaces at bars and restaurants.
Many are questioning why it took a court to force the governor to release it?
