Despite careful safety measures, several horses of the French delegation that competed at the 2021 CDI Ornago have tested positive to EHV-1 at home.
EHV-1 Outbreaks in Spain and Italy
The EHV-1 outbreaks on the show jumpings tours in Spain (Valencia, Oliva Nova) and Italy (San Giovanni, Gorla Minore).
On 20 April the Italian Equestrian Federation (FISE) reported that a horse competing at a national jumping show held at the Horse Bridge club in None (200 km from Ornago) was euthanized after testing positive to EHV-1 and showing severe neurological symptoms. On 6 May Dido Valvassori, member of the veterinary committee of the Piemonte regional equestrian federation, confirmed a second outbreak of EHV-1 in the area after one horse tested positive. The horse showed no signs of illness though.

French Grand Prix riders have started a mass exodus from the 2021 CDI Ornago in Italy today after fellow team rider Morgan Barbançon reported two EHV-1 positive horses, one at home and one at the show.
EHV- 1 Outbreak in Barbançon s Stable
French team rider Morgan Barbançon was supposed to compete Sir Donnerhall II, Black Pearl and Deadoro in the 2021 CDI Ornaga at the Malaspina equestrian centre on 6 - 9 April 2021.
After a last training session with her coach Dorothee Schneider, she began the journey to Italy and arrived at the show grounds. However, her Italian stay did not last long and Barbançon returned home before yesterday s Grand Prix class.

Swiss showjumper Martin Fuchs is currently ranked number three in the world and this weekend (Sunday, 25 April) he will be bidding to win a second leg of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping.
The 28-year-old became a live contender for the prestigious Rolex Grand Slam when winning in Geneva in December 2019 and, after a 16 month hiatus, Martin once again picks up the Grand Slam baton at the Dutch Masters in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands.
28-year-old Martin is a Rolex Testimonee and started 2021 at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida, before heading to Italy to compete in the CSI3 at Gorla Minore.
