New program in Shiawassee County gives free meals to those in need while helping local businesses Updated Mar 17, 2021; Facebook Share SHIAWASSEE COUNTY, MI Community leaders throughout Shiawassee County have partnered to create a new program to help families and individuals in need while also supporting local businesses. The Shiawassee Supporting Our Area Restaurants meal distribution program, or SOARs, led by the Shiawassee County YMCA, United Way of Genesee County, Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership, Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce and Greater Durand Area Chamber of Commerce, was created to distribute meals to individuals/households to those in need across the county and to support local restaurants. ....
SHIAWASSEE COUNTY â The Shiawassee County Health Department has received more than 100 complaints from area residents since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic about local businesses; most are related to employees either not wearing masks or wearing them improperly. According to a Freedom of Information Act response, there were 105 total complaints received by the health department since March with Itsa Deli Thing in downtown Owosso named most often. In March and April, approximately 15 complaints were received by the health department that complained of businesses being open in violation of Gov. Gretchen Whitmerâs March 23 executive orders that forbade non-essential businesses from opening. Later, as executive orders changed multiple times, the type of complaints changed as well to focus on masks. ....
