N Norfolk Methodists get souped up for charity
The North Norfolk Methodist Circuit is launching its very own recipe book to raise money for Christian Aid. Tony Rothe reports.
The book is entitled
‘Souper Aid’, and is inspired by this year s Christian Aid Week ‘
Every last drop’ appeal. It contains a collection of soup recipes interspersed with prayers, reflections and poems which have been contributed by a variety of people from across North Norfolk.
 
Florence and
Rose, both Kenyans, who feature in the
Christian Aid campaign. Their respective communities have been adversely affected by extreme weather, attributed to the effects of climate change. Torrential rain has swept away newly planted crops of maize and beans, and this has been followed by periods of prolonged drought. ....

Freedom Day of 1994 for a young Greta Apelgren-Narkedien, was a day to be celebrated as the first post-apartheid elections brought in a new era of hope for South Africa, however, it was also a day to reflect on how many people died and had to suffer for democracy.
“It was a tough day for me because as I voted I realised everything that had to happen to get to this day. The first day of elections was the first real day of freedom, but I couldn t stop thinking that so many people had died for this,” she said. ....

Prominent women of jazz feature at the launch of the
Dunedin Jazz Club (DJC) on Saturday 6 March, with legendary
trumpeter and vocalist Edwina Thorne from Auckland being
joined by Dunedin singer Molly McGee.
Edwina Thorne
has a long standing relationship with the musical scene in
Dunedin, having performed regularly with pianist and club
director Bill Martin in the past.
She has performed at
the Queenstown and Harbour Street Jazz Festivals with
players from the South Island and has always thrilled
audiences with her big trumpet sound, smooth flugelhorn
playing and husky vocals.
