Mick Waters has set a goal to walk 1000 miles to raise money for Poppyscotland
FORMER policeman and army veteran Mick Waters has set a goal to walk 1000 miles to raise funds for Poppyscotland and will celebrate his 67th birthday during the marathon trek.
Waters will walk the End-to-End challenge from Land’s End to John O’Groats by a circuitous route with just one day off at home in Inverness.
Originally hailing from South London, Waters joined the British Army in 1973 at the tender age of 18. He served with the 5th Dragoon Guards, a calvary regiment, for the first five years, then transferred to the Royal Military Police where he served for a further 17 years. ....

Bravery of 51st Highland Division at 'forgotten Dunkirk' will be remembered


Her Majesty The Queen s Piper, Pipe Major Richard Grisdale, of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, on top of the Round Tower at Windsor Castle, joining pipers and musicians in marking the Battle of St Valery-en-Caux in June 2020.
It is known as the forgotten Dunkirk, the little known plight of the 51st Highland Division who were left in France.
On June 12 1940, days after the mass-evacuations at Dunkirk, 10,000, mainly Scottish soldiers were captured and forced to surrender at the French fishing port of St Valery. The events that occurred that day have been largely forgotten by history.
And as the 80th anniversary was marked last year, it came with a promise that the men and their legacy would be remembered. ....

New Poppyscotland project aims to shine a light on WWII's 'forgotten battle'

AN Armed Forces charity has teamed-up with an educational platform in a bid to teach future generations about a Second World War battle. 
Poppscotland and Twinkl Scotland aim to shine a light on the incredible story of the 51st Highland Division in St Valery. 
On June 12, 1940, days after the mass-evacuations at Dunkirk, 10,000 mainly Scottish soldiers were captured and forced to surrender at the French fishing port.

Gordon Michie, head of fundraising and learning at Poppyscotland, said: “Last year saw the 80th anniversary of St Valery and we endeavoured to raise public awareness by organising a number of events to commemorate the gallantry of the ‘Forgotten 51st.’ ....

Poppyscotland: new fundraising challenge to raise money to support Armed Forces

A leading military charity is launching a new fundraising challenge with the aim of raising money to support the Armed Forces and Veterans community.
Poppyscotland’s new challenge My Poppy Run encourages entrants to double knot their trainers, grab their sweatbands and hit the road, park, or treadmill.
Participants are encouraged to pick a route in their local area and can chose to run, jog, or walk any distance of their choosing either solo, in a household bubble, or a socially distanced small group. 
The head of Fundraising at Poppyscotland, Gordon Michie, said: “We provide life-changing support to help those who have served, those still serving, and their families, and although restrictions are slowly lifting, we have been forced to cancel several major events we had planned in 2021. ....
