In January, the News reported on efforts to alleviate previous delays in drug orders and other difficulties at Benzer Pharmacy, formerly Town Drug. A regional manager for the national pharmacy chain pointed to issues with the company’s wholesaler related to new acquisitions of pharmacy locations in Ohio. The local pharmacy has since regained its footing, and in November, the downtown store a pharmacy location for about 90 years changed its name to Yellow Springs Pharmacy. Clem & Thyme Nutrition and Wellness expanded its East Enon Road practice, the News reported in February. Founded by Leslie Edmunds, the practice offers nutrition therapy, dietary consulting, cooking classes and more. ....
A new economic development organization started up in the village this year. The Yellow Springs Development Corporation, or YSDC, is a quasi-governmental, nonprofit corporation that has been designated by the Village of Yellow Springs and Miami Township as their official Community Improvement Corporation, or CIC. The group also has representation from Yellow Springs Schools, Antioch College and the Yellow Springs Community Foundation. Its first meeting was Feb. 4. The group worked primarily on two activities: exploring the possibility of siting “an educational commons” on the Antioch College campus, and selling the former Miami Township fire station on Corry Street, which was set to be vacated after trustees and the fire department moved in November to their new facility across town. The group also helped distribute local coronavirus relief to businesses. ....
Nationally known comedian and local resident Dave Chappelle is purchasing the former Miami Township fire station with plans to open a comedy club. The Yellow Springs Development Corporation, or YSDC, disclosed the buyer of the fire station this week after originally approving the purchase in September. Chappelle’s company, Iron Table Holdings, will renovate the longtime fire station at 225 Corry St. into a comedy club featuring both a performance space and restaurant, according to plans shared by the YSDC. The venue’s capacity is estimated at 140 people, and patios are slated for the property along Corry Street and the Little Miami Scenic Trail. ....
