WOODLAND PARK • As memories fade and history recedes into 21st-century concerns, a documentary by the Ute Pass Historical Society tells the story of the impact of area dude ranches, economically, socially and culturally. The film is a collaboration of the society, the Teller County Film Commission, Animas Productions and RedJaxx Media.
The documentary recalls the romance of the Old West that reverberated across America. “People wanted to pretend that they were back in the era of cowboys, to experience that kind of life,” said Donna Finicle, speaking in the theatrical trailer of “The Story of Us/ Dude Ranches above the Clouds.”
A man who robbed a Colorado Springs bank in 2019 and reportedly yelled “Merry Christmas” while throwing the stolen money into the air was arrested in Teller County Friday after a brief chase, officials said.
David Oliver, 66, faces multiple charges, including felony menacing, possession of a gun, and driving under the influence, according to a news release.
A Teller County deputy saw a Ford Expedition without license plates on Loy Creek Road east of Woodland Park and signaled for the driver to pull over, the release said. When the SUV stopped about a mile later on Rampart Range Road, the driver rolled down the window and reportedly said, “I’ve got a gun and I m not going back to jail.” The driver then showed a handgun before driving away with the deputy in pursuit, the sheriff’s office said.

First, the very (but not necessarily all-inclusive)
basics:
Some places you hiked or biked three seasons of the year aren t accessible in the winter. For example, Rampart Range Road is closed from the Garden of the Gods to Rampart Reservoir. The road to the ever popular Crags Trail is closed just after the Mennonite Camp (and no, you can t park there, either. Respect their property). Also, some roads you may have driven with ease three seasons out of the year are not maintained in the winter, or at the very least see rare or sporadic maintenance. If the road looks sketchy to start, assume that it only gets worse later, because all the smart people just turned around before they got too far in. Getting your car towed in from the back country can be VERY expensive.
