Project Mastodon lands its big game
The announcement this week that Amazon will build a $100 million distribution center in Fort Wayne appears to be just what the city ordered: a large-scale project from an established, stable company that will include nearly 1,000 full-time jobs.
The massive online retailer confirmed Monday what had been rumored for weeks – that it is behind plans for a 634,000-square-foot structure at 5510 Flaugh Road, near Washington Center Road and U.S. 30 on the city s northwest side. Project Mastodon – the code name under which the project had been known because nondisclosure agreements kept many details hidden – is officially now a fulfillment center where goods will be packed for shipping to Amazon customers.
