Man, 27, accused of sexually abusing young girl Posted May 19, 2021 STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Authorities allege that a 27-year-old man sexually abused a young girl on Staten Island. Heriberto Ruiz, of N. Gannon Avenue in Castleton Corners, repeatedly had sexual intercourse and other illegal contact with a child less than 11 years old, according to the criminal complaint and police. Ruiz was arrested on Friday and charged with course of sexual conduct, course of sexual conduct against a child and endangering the welfare of a child. Bond has been set at $150,000/$100,000 cash for the suspect who is due back in Criminal Court on Aug. 18. ....

Representatives from the non-profit agency in the process of opening a Grasmere homeless shelter for women will address Community Board 2 during a virtual meeting of its full board on Tuesday, May 18, at 7 p.m. The Institute for Community Living plans to open the 50-bed shelter at 1055 Hylan Blvd. It will be for single adult women over the age of 50 who are experiencing homelessness. Safety, security, social services and support will be provided to the residents while they get back on their feet. Priority will be offered to women with roots in the community and Staten Island more broadly. ....
