It’s not so farfetched to imagine this territory might have been French rather than English.
The French not only claimed the vast St. Lawrence Basin and the Mississippi Valley, which included the Ohio Valley, they “exercised sovereignty over the region in the 17th and 18th Century.” They did so by following their discoveries by establishing settlements, military forts and trading posts along the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes including what was once called Sandusky Lake (Sandusky Bay).
