San Angelo ISD Celebrates Employees at Outdoor Ceremony
SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo ISD teachers, staff, and administrators gathered the evening of Thursday, April 28th at the San Angelo Stadium for a district-wide, outdoor celebration of the accomplishments of the 2020-2021 school year, and honored staff for their service and contributions to the district.
“We are so proud of each and every one of our San Angelo ISD team members that enabled us to open our doors on time for our students in August and remain open throughout this unique school year,” said Dr. Carl Dethloff, Superintendent of SAISD during the ceremony. “Our classrooms and schools remained one of the safest places in our city during the pandemic, and we emerged stronger than before due to the efforts of these outstanding educators. SAN ANGELO Beginning in August 2022, the state board of education voted to allow seventh- and eighth-grade students in Texas to learn about forms of birth control beyond abstinence, but middle schoolers still won t have to learn about the importance of consent or the definitions of gender identity and sexual orientation.
The candidates running for trustee positions on the San Angelo ISD school board shared their opinion concerning these issues with the Standard-Times.
Three district races on the school board will be decided during the election May 1, 2021. Candidates were sent eight questions and asked to keep their responses limited to 3-4 sentences. Some responses have been edited for clarity and length.
SAN ANGELO The candidates running for trustee positions on the San Angelo ISD school board have several reasons for doing so. From prior service to a passion for education, they shared what motivates them with the Standard-Times.

Responses not appearing below include those from Collyn Neal Glaspie, Lupita Arroyo and Chris Giroux.
Glaspie suspended his campaign for Single Member District 3 due to personal reasons in late March. School Board trustees voted March 29 to cancel the election for Single Member District 2 after Arroyo ran unopposed and was therefore declared elected to office. Giroux informed the Standard-Times on March 31 he would not participate in the annual election guide for San Angelo voters.
