The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a series of three shots fired incidents that occurred between Dec. 28 and Jan. 4. The first in this most recent string of incidents took place at the intersection of N. Henry and Montgomery streets just after 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 28, according to APD Public Information Officer Amanda Paga. Police discovered shell casings at the scene, and although no injuries were reported, there was confirmed property damage. On Jan. 1, a second shots fired incident was reported in the 1400 block of Jamieson Ave. just before 2 a.m. Officers also found shell casings, and, like in the first incident, no injuries were reported but property damage was sustained in the area, according to Paga. ....

(Photo/Cody Mello-Klein) By Cody Mello-Klein | Residents and staff at Goodwin House Alexandria, an elder care facility that provides independent and assisted living, were among the first in the city to receive the first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday. In partnership with CVS, which, along with Wallgreens, is administering the vaccine in long-term care facilities around the state, Goodwin House was able to provide the initial dose of the vaccine to more than 300 residents and staff. A second dose of the vaccine will be administered to those who received the vaccine this week on Jan. 19. ....
333 The Alexandria Times is pleased to announce the promotion of Cody Mello-Klein to managing editor. Mello-Klein was previously Times reporter and photographer for the past two years, during which he won numerous Virginia Press Association awards for his news reporting and feature writing. Mello-Klein also launched the Times’ new podcast series, Speak Easy, in 2020, and served as host and editor of most episodes. Originally from the Boston, Massachusetts area, Mello-Klein holds undergraduate and master’s degrees from Northeastern University. Mello-Klein replaces Missy Schrott, who left to pursue another opportunity after three plus years as Times editor, managing editor and reporter/photographer. ....
