Goddard House to host author Greg O’Brien COURTESY OF GODDARD HOUSE Goddard House, 165 Chestnut St., Brookline, will co-host author Greg O Brien for a virtual speaking event at 1 p.m. May 4. Diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s, career journalist Greg O’Brien speaks about living with Alzheimer’s in his book, “On Pluto: Inside the Mind of Alzheimer’s,” which is about hope, faith and humor from an investigative reporter embedded inside the mind of Alzheimer’s, chronicling the progression of his own disease. This event is co-sponsored by the Center Communities of Brookline, Brookline Community Aging Network and Brookline Senior Center. ....
Goddard House receives grant from Alzheimer’s Foundation COURTESY OF ALZHEIMER’S FOUNDATION OF AMERICA The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America recently awarded grant funding to Goddard House in Brookline to bring Opening Minds Through Art, an intergenerational art-making program for older adults living with dementia, to underserved communities in the Boston area. Building on success introducing and piloting OMA at the Goddard House assisted living memory support neighborhood in 2016, Goddard House Community Initiatives will use the $6,000 AFA grant to help launch its OMA in the Community program to help increase arts equity and access to underserved Boston-area older adults living with dementia. A priority is to provide OMA programs, preferably in English and Spanish, to nursing homes, adult daycare providers and other elder care organizations. ....

The award-winning intergenerational program pairs younger people with those diagnosed with memory loss and focuses on creativity. It s built connections and had therapeutic benefits for people living with memory loss. Now, through a grant from the Alzheimer s Foundation of America, Goddard House plans to expand its program to help older adults living with dementia in under served communities nearby in Boston.
