SOUTHWEST HARBOR Worried about possible future constraints on private and public property, selectmen voted Tuesday to submit a letter to the Maine Historic Preservation Commission outlining several concerns regarding a nomination of the Mount Desert Island Hiking Trail System to the National Register of Historic Places.  
Notices regarding this nomination were previously sent a year ago, on April 17, 2020, to each town on Mount Desert Island regarding the nomination. That was a month after nearly all public events were shut down due to COVID-19. Selectmen and the Bar Harbor Town Council were trying to figure out how to continue meeting via Zoom, among other pressing town business, and may not have had time to review these notices.    ....

GOULDSBORO Should town employees risk losing workers’ compensation benefits if they opt not to be vaccinated and test positive for COVID-19? Must they sign waivers before traveling out of state, and self-quarantine unpaid for 10 days, if they come down with the coronavirus before their return? These are possible rules, as part of a COVID-19 policy, that the Gouldsboro Board of Selectmen has wrestled with since the federal Family First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) expired Dec. 31, 2020. RSU 24 School Board talks paid leave, adult ed
SULLIVAN At a Regional School Unit 24 (RSU 24) Board of Directors meeting via Zoom last Tuesday night, Superintendent Mike Eastman informing the board that Maine’s Earn Paid Leave Law went into effect on Jan. 1. 
Employees in a workplace with 10 or more employees will earn one hour of paid leave for every 40 hours worked, Eastman recapped. Employees may earn up to 40 hours of paid leave in a designated year.
Eastman explained that the district’s substitute teachers, coaches and afterschool program staff will now “be able to collect paid leave.”
When current collective bargaining agreements expire, “we will have to work with the language of the law,” Eastman said. A procedural rough draft has been developed, he added. ....
