Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao have reopened tourism last July 15. The Centre for Economic Situation Administration (CESA) said that Samui Island is set to welcome about 1,000 foreign tourists under the Samui Plus programme during its first month of reopening.
The programme is also expected to generate THB180 million (USD5.5 million). “We will receive about 180 million baht in revenue from the Samui Plus Model over one month,” Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, spokesman of the CESA. He added that most international tourists will be from Europe and the Middle East.
Following the Phuket Sandbox Programme early this month, Thailand has reopened other destinations . However, unlike in Phuket Sandbox where travellers enjoy their trip without quarantine, tourists to Samui Plus are required to stay in an alternative local quarantine (ALQ) for the first seven days. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is confident that the number of foreign tourists visiting Thailand in the fourth quarter of the year will increase significantly, thanks to the tourism sandbox campaigns that aim to reopen certain areas of Thailand to vaccinated tourists.
“The pilot tourism sandbox programme in Phuket that started on July 1 has been a great success. From July 1-14 the province has welcomed 5,742 tourists, nearly reaching the same level as in May, which had 6,512 tourists,” TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said on Thursday. ....

PHUKET: An updated release by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has clarified several key aspects about the conditions of entry for vaccinated tourists under the ‘Phuket Tourism Sandbox’ scheme from July 1, but openly identified details yet to be confirmed for many critical aspects affecting tourists’ stays on the island.

The release, updated late yesterday (June 9), noted that six airlines have announced direct flights to Phuket: THAI, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Hongkong Airlines, EVA Air, Korean Air, Jinair, Cathay Pacific and KLM. ....
