Posted: Aug 03, 2021 3:41 PM PT | Last Updated: August 4 The North End Long Island fire on Harrison Lake has prompted an evacuation alert for eight cabins on the northern half of the island.(B.C. Wildfire Service/Facebook) Precipitation and cooler temperatures over the weekend provided some relief for wildfire fighting efforts, but it wasn t enough to make much of a longterm dent, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service. Dry conditions are expected to return to the southern Interior in the coming days. The B.C. Wildfire Service s director of fire centre operations Rob Schweitzer said we re not in the clear yet and he doesn t want anyone thinking the wildfires are over. ....
The rain received over the weekend has curbed the fire behaviour but only for a short period of time, allowing our crews to make progress, Schweitzer said at a news conference. However, the amount of rain was not enough to make any long-term impact, and we ll be returning to those extremely dry conditions to the southern Interior. He said high temperatures and dry weather are expected to continue in the Interior region for the next two days while variable conditions are forecast for the rest of the province. Wildfire Service, Rob Schweitzer said at the Aug. 3 provincial fire update. Rain and humidity cooled fire activity at larger wildfires, allowing crews to drop into steeper, more dangerous terrain and build more fire guards, Schweitzer said. ....
VANCOUVER The B.C. government has extended the state of emergency prompted by the province s ongoing wildfire situation for another two weeks. The extension was announced Tuesday as thousands of B.C. residents remained under evacuation orders and alerts as a result of some of the 254 wildfires burning across the province. As we have seen over the past number of weeks, the continued dry, hot weather poses a high risk for potential wildfires, Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth said in a statement. The province will continue to support British Columbians with all of the tools they may need if they end up facing an evacuation order. ....
