The 2021 Sail Port Stephens regatta switched to island time today for Race 2 of the Commodores Cup, with the fleet heading seawards for a race course where Mother Nature lays the marks - or at least the landmarks.
Starting off Nelson Bay breakwall, the yachts donned spinnakers for a sparkling run in nor westerly winds gusting to 18 knots. Many hugged Yacaaba Headland under the stern gaze of seabirds and dolphins, modern sails juxtaposed against the majestic, millennium-old cliffs.
They then wove around Cabbage Tree and Boondelbah Islands, which stand like sentries at the entrance to this pristine marine park. ....

The 2020/21 Farr 40 National Titles have opened today on Sydney Harbour.
With a Strong Wind Warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology the PRO, Denis Thompson, advised owners and tacticians in the morning briefing that racing would be conducted inshore today.
Shifting breezes kept the race management team on Offshore on their toes with the course changing a number of times throughout the day.
An on-water umpire is in place for the regatta to clear any boat-on-boat protests immediately with a one-turn penalty.
All races were two lap windward/leeward courses and Race 1 results were Outlaw from CYCA/RSYC, Blue Tack from MHYC and Good Form from NCYC. ....

St Helens Council budget plans approved

Investment will go into the Gamble building
THE 2021/22 budget was officially approved at a full meeting of St Helens Borough Council tonight.
This year’s budget includes plans to restore and then reopen both the Gamble building in St Helens town centre and Earlestown Town Hall.
A total of £3.4 million has been allocated to the two heritage projects for 2021/22.
The Gamble building on Victoria Square will receive £1.4 million for its external renovations, with a further £2.2 million for its interior works in 2022/23.
