Mayor Renner: It's Time To Allow Indoor Dining At 25% Capacity

Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner said he thinks the governor should allow a limited amount of indoor dining starting now.
Region 2, which includes McLean County, could improve back to Tier 2 mitigations as soon as Friday. But that, on its own, would not allow indoor dining to resume. Under current rules, indoor dining could only resume in a region if its testing positivity rate dips below 6.5% and there s healthy hospital bed and ICU capacity, NPR Illinois reported.
Still, some restaurants are ready to go. Rob Dob s in Bloomington, for example, announced on Facebook it will be reopening dine-in service on Friday. ....

Barickman Continues Push for Public Hearings on State's COVID Response

News is brought to you by Jack Lewis Jewelers
Nine months into the COVID-19 pandemic, Illinois Governor Pritzker has issued 72 executive orders governing every aspect of the state’s response, and the state legislature has had zero public hearings on the state’s response efforts. State Senator Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) is continuing to call on Governor Pritzker to allow for public hearings on the state’s COVID-19 efforts.
“The constitution relies on a system of checks and balances designed to limit the authority of any one person,” said Barickman. “Every day we hear issues from our constituents, from unemployment problems to mental health concerns to the tragic situation at assisted living facilities. However, it’s the Governor who isn’t listening.” ....

Barickman pushing for public hearing on state's COVID-19 response

State Sen. Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) is calling on Gov. JB Pritzker to allow public hearings on the state s COVID-19 response since the state legislature has had zero public hearings regarding the response.
“The constitution relies on a system of checks and balances designed to limit the authority of any one person,” Barickman said in a statement. “Every day we hear issues from our constituents, from unemployment problems to mental health concerns to the tragic situation at assisted living facilities. However, it s the governor who isn t listening.”
Barickman held a press conference in Bloomington-Normal Tuesday to hear from people and businesses to highlight issues they are facing in community and hopefully provide legislative input on the Pritzker s executive orders. ....

B-N COVID Rulebreakers Say They're Victims, Not Villains

Dana Vollmer

Bloomington-Normal restaurant owners who shirked the governor s executive orders say they re being painted as villains. But they argue they should ve had a seat at the table when COVID-19 mitigations were being developed.
Joe Wargo co-owns Joe s Pub and Joe’s Station House in the Twin Cities. There’s an unresolved complaint against Wargo’s Bloomington business for failing to comply to Tier 3 mitigations. Wargo said they’re just doing the best they can.
“It goes without saying that we ve all had our fair share of struggles during this pandemic,” Wargo said at a news conference Tuesday outside of Joe s Pub. “The first word that comes to mind when describing the economic impact that this virus and the mitigations have had on our staff and business is ‘devastating.’ But that word seems to do no justice for the long days and nights that we ve experienced over the last nine months.” ....
