American journalist Daniel Pearl’s parents on Friday told the Supreme Court that the motive behind the brutal murder of their son was not personal enmity but was clearly to use it to intimidate not only the Pakistani government but other countries and organisations as well.
In April last year, the Sindh High Court (SHC) set aside the detention of four men – including British-born Pakistani Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh – who were convicted by an anti-terrorism court in 2002 for Pearl s murder. ....

KARACHI:
The Sindh government on Friday filed a review petition against the Supreme Court’s (SC) verdict of acquitting all accused persons involved in American journalist Daniel Pearl’s murder.
The Sindh Prosecutor General has filed three criminal review petitions against majority judgment. The provincial government has also requested the SC to pass a restraining order regarding release of accused persons forthwith.
The review petition states that the offences created a sense of fear and terror in the minds of the public at large, both nationally and internationally as such all the accused were guilty of the charges levelled against them on all counts. ....

The Sindh government on Friday filed a review petition against the Supreme Court’s (SC) verdict of acquitting all accused persons involved in American journalist Daniel Pearl’s murder.

The parents of slain journalist Daniel Pearl said on Thursday that the family was in complete shock by the majority decision of the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan to acquit and release Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and the other accused persons who kidnapped and killed Daniel Pearl .
In a statement issued following the announcement of the apex court s decision, the journalist s parents - Judea and Ruth Pearl - maintained that, “Today s decision is a complete travesty of justice and the release of these killers puts in danger journalists everywhere and the people of Pakistan.” ....

ISLAMABAD:
A lawyer for the accused in the Daniel Pearl murder case told the Supreme Court that the case did not fall in the category of terrorism as per the apex court orders, as the hearing of the appeals against a high court ruling in the case continued on Thursday.
A three-member larger bench, headed by Justice Mushir Alam and including Justice Yahya Khan Afridi and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, sought arguments on terrorism charges before adjourning the case until Wednesday. ....
